Sweet Treats for Quilters

Shop Hop - It's that time again!

Can you believe it's mid-May already? So how come we're still getting April's showers? Let's hope for a beautiful dry weekend for our upcoming Shop Hop on May 28 and 29! If you've never participated in a shop hop before you have lots of fun to look forward to. Three shops are participating this year and we have lots of fun in store for you. We've been gathering fun bits to fill our goody bags. Pick up your passport and your goody bag at the first stop. Each shop is offering 15% off fabric and notions. Be sure to get your passport stamped at each of the 3 shops to be eligible to win our grand prize or one of our 3 second prizes. Grand Prize is a $100.00 gift certificate and a class voucher for each of the three shops. Second Prize (we have 3!) is a gift basket from one of the participating shops.
Of course each shop will have treats on offer! Julie from ToBeQuilting will be at Quilting Confections showing off our B-Line Quilting System with Q-Bot! Check it out!
BYOB – Bring your own bag and add your name to an additional draw for a quilty prize. You must have your bag with you and use it!
We've been busy cutting fat quarters and kits that fit into our theme of “Sew Much Fun” And fabric... we're bursting at the seams with all the new fabrics we've added. We can't wait – it's as much fun for us as it is for you!

See you soon!

Summer Classes

We're busy planning our summer class line-up. Some like to put their sewing away for the warm months and others look forward to finally having the time to join in a class. We've planned lots of one-day classes, maybe you'll have time to join us. Look at our list of classes and see if there isn't something there that piques your interest. If you suddenly find yourself with a free day, check our class schedule, maybe you can slip in at the last minute, or join us for a Friday afternoon sit & sew break. It needn't be a huge commitment, remember to plan some time for yourself. Bring your project, we love to see what you've been up to.

New Stuff

We have so many new fabrics! 43 colours of Marbelous Jacquard Dots - you've got to see them!

We've also added many new striped fabrics this month. Consider a beautiful striped, mitered border. If you don't know how to mitre a border, just ask, we're happy to help.

Are you interested in English paper piecing? We have a few shapes to get you started, hexagons, diamonds and dresden plates.

Demo Day

Saturday June 5 - don't forget to bring a show & share item. We love to see what you're making!

Scrappy Quilt

If you know me, you know I love a scrappy quilt. The first quilts I was aware of were crazy quilts and scrappy quilts that were probably made by a grandmother. They were just there, I don't remember when they arrived at our home or where they came from and sadly no one else in my family can recall now either. (Maybe a good incentive to label your quilts). These quilts from my memory were heavier and they were tied with wool or floss rather than quilted. They were utilitarian quilts made for warmth. We make quilts for all kinds of reasons now, mostly because we need the creative outlet. If you're like me, you just need to sew and look for all kinds of reasons to “justify” your hobby. I like to use my quilts in everyday life and look for ways to do that. The following is a tutorial on how I make a table quilt. Some people like to make runners but I like a topper that covers my entire dining room table edge to edge with no overhang.
I like to make crazy log cabin blocks when I feel the need to sew but don't want to be too careful. With this technique you don't have to have a perfect quarter inch seam allowance, you just need to sew a straight line. I've added lots of pictures to help out along the way. I hope you'll join me for a little recreational sewing time – just give it a try and see if you don't enjoy sewing this way too for a change.

Demo Day

Saturday April 3 is Demo Day. Plan to bring a finished show & share item and be here for 10:30 so you don't miss anything. We'll put the coffee on and all you have to do is relax and enjoy the demo!

Block of the Month

Fractured FlowersDon't forget to check out our sample blocks for the upcoming block of the month project. Our theme is stars and each month's kit will have instructions to make a star block and the fabrics you need to make that block. We'll start in May so be sure you're name's on the registration list if you want that first block. The first block is $5.00 and when you show us your finished block, the next kit is also $5.00. If your block isn't finished you can still get the next kit but it will be $7.00.

Free Class

Quilt of RemembranceOur free class offering is String Zinger on Friday morning, April 9. Purchase your background fabric and take the rest from your stash or scrap basket. String piecing is a fun way to use up lots of those bits & pieces we just can't throw away. Register soon so you don't miss out!

Closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday

We will be closed for Good Friday, April 2, and Easter Sunday, April 4.

What's New?

Well, for one thing we're blogging - check out our first online tutorial. Sew along with Sue to make a carefree log cabin project. Make a few blocks or a whole bunch - it's fun! Put them together any way you like - could be a table topper or a lap quilt - maybe a cuddle quilt for donation …
